MANITOBA DRAFT HORSE FUTURITY
RULES AND REGULATIONS
2 year old division
1) Class will consist of (3) three equal divisions; where points are totaled to determine a winner.
2) Order of showing will be determined by a draw at least one hour prior to the class.
3) Winner of the two-year-old futurity will be the horse receiving the most overall points from the three divisions.
a) Halter
b) Rail cart
c) Pattern cart
· Horses must show in all three divisions to qualify for prize money awarded.
· Horses placing in the top10 in each division will be given (1) one point plus an additional point for each horse placing below them. Not to exceed (10) ten points for first place.
· If there is a tie in the total amount of points at the conclusion of the three divisions, the horse placing the highest in the halter division will be awarded the higher placing.
HALTER DIVISION
Emphasis will be placed on an animal that is conformationally correct and sound on all feet and legs. Balance, breed type, form to function, smoothness of body parts, eye appeal and the action of the animal all to be considered. All breeds, all sexes to be shown in the same class.
RAIL/CART DIVISION
Designed to show a free easy moving animal that is relaxed, with alert ears, moving balanced with a nonintimidated forward way of going, and bright and responsive to the driver at various gaits, all breeds and all sexes to be shown in the same class.
Rail work in both directions of the ring will consist of walking and trotting. Judging will be based on the horses overall performance and way of going as well as its ability to hold the designated gait. Action, headset, type and eye appeal all to count, horses may be asked to back.
PATTERN DIVISION
Will consist of an individual pattern or work designed to show how well broke the horse is. Work will consist of a simple pattern designed for a (2) two-year-old.
1) enter the ring at a walk, begin trot and cut a figure 8
2) stop in the middle of ring and back up at least 5 steps
3) walk forward at least 5 steps. Stop and pause
4) fan left 90 degrees, pause, return to centre
5) fan right 90 degrees, pause, return to centre
(you may either fan right or left first, whatever your preference)
6) enter and exit a designed key-hole - penalty for stepping over the line
SCORING GUIDE
The pattern class will be judged, marking scores in each of the (6) six maneuvers; each being valued from 0 - 100 points.
Total of all (6) maneuvers totals 600 points.
POOR 0 - 25 points
FAIR 26 - 50 points
GOOD 51 - 75 points
EXCELLENT 76 - 100 points
Penalties, per maneuver to be given as follows:
50 point penalty for - refusal, bucking, kicking, rearing, stepping over the line;
100 point penalty for - blatant disobedience, going off pattern
DISMISSAL - excessive abuse, horse or driver falling to the ground, (drivers foot touching or horses shoulder touching the ground), excessive use of whip, or horse's behavior considered a danger to themselves or others.
EQUIPMENT
1) All horses are shown in standard equipment.
2) All exhibitors to show in appropriate attire.
3) Utilization of inhumane training devices and or equipment will not be tolerated in the show ring or warm up area and will be cause for elimination from the competition.
4) Horses and equipment are subject to examination by show committee and or judge, both in the ring and in the warm up area.
EXHIBITORS
Exhibitors may be changed as long as the committee and the announcer are informed of any changes at the time of the "position draw", approximately one hour before competition.
Any disputes will be dealt with at the discretion of the Manitoba Pennwoods Draft Horse Futurity committee.
