The Manitoba Percheron and Belgian Club is comprised of around 80 heavy horse enthusiasts from across Manitoba and eastern Saskatchewan. The number of breeding animals is in the area of 10,000.

The club's annual general meeting is held every year in January, at the Victoria Inn in Brandon. The Clyde Club meets at the same time and both clubs get together for a joint banquet and auction to raise funds for the club. It is the club's big social outing of the year, and most members attend.

Each year the club attends/sponsors various events. This summer's schedule can be seen to the left.

In 2004, the club was proud and honored to host the World Percheron Congress at the Keystone Centre in Brandon. To see the results of this exciting event, please visit the World Congress Website.

MANITOBA DRAFT HORSE FUTURITY

The new millennium seemed like the opportune time to lead the Provincial Draft Horse industry in a new direction. The Futurity was spawned with the inaugural show held in 2001 at Birtle, MB.

The idea behind the Futurity is to showcase the top breeding stock found within the Province. Horses from Manitoba have shown they have what it takes to win anywhere in North America.

Foals are nominated in their weanling year with eligibility to return in halter as yearlings and again as two year olds in halter and cart classes.

Usually from 20-30 Producers nominate from 55 to 80 weanlings each Fall and of those, 40-50% will return the following year as yearlings.

In the two year old class approximately 15-25% will return, making these some of the largest and toughest classes anywhere. 40% of the nomination and 100% of the entry fees, as well as sponsorship money goes towards prizes; with first place in each age category taking home $1000.

Any Manitoba raised draft foal is eligible to be nominated and once nominated can be entered in the Futurity classes by owners anywhere.

Note to club members: If you have more information for your spot in the members area, please email it to Brenda Hunter
