Manitoba Belgian Show
August 5 & 6, 2005

Birtle, Manitoba once again hosted the Manitoba Belgian Show in conjunction with the Birtle Agricultural Society Fair the weekend of August 5 & 6, 2005. The weekend proved to be very hot and dry, and the host committee once again provided an entertaining and fun-filled weekend. The judge for the two-day event was Mr. Ken Wilson from Pilot Mound, and Mr. Ivan Strain capably handled the announcing duties.

Roselea Dexter - Grand Champion Stallion

The Belgian halter classes began bright and early on Friday morning. In the breeding stock classes, Roselea Belgians of Virden, MB picked up Grand Champion Stallion honors with a yearling colt, Roselea Dexter, while Creek Side Phantom exhibited by Tom Lane was Reserve Champion Stallion.

Styllin Stella

Junior Champion Filly and Reserve Champion Mare was Gardiner's Styllin' Stella a 2 yr old owned and shown by Rob Gardiner of Virden, with Gardiner and Don Van Den Bussche taking home the Reserve Junior Champion Filly ribbon for Bridgeman's Patti Lou, a yearling filly bred by Kevin & Julie Bridgeman of Binscarth.

Roselea Beckie - Senior Champion and Grand Champion Mare

Roselea Beckie, an entry of Wayne Morsky of Regina, SK and exhibited by Grant Gee of Virden, was Senior Champion and Grand Champion Mare. Another entry of Roselea Belgians, Roselea Royal Rose picked up Reserve Senior Champion Mare honors.

Reg - Grand Champion Gelding & Supreme Champion

In the gelding classes, hometown Creek Side Belgians exhibited the Grand Champion Gelding with their light draft gelding, Reg, who also went on to be named Supreme Champion of the show, while their heavy draft gelding, Chance was named Reserve Champion Gelding.

Heavy and Light Draft Team Classes; Champion team overall

In the hitch classes, Rocky Bar Ranch, the DenBrok's of Esterhazy, SK, were the winners of both the heavy and light draft team classes, with the light draft team going on to be crowned Champion team overall.

Registered Mare Class - Roselea Belgians

Roselea Belgians of Virden won the Registered Mare class.

There were 10 exhibitors showing a total of 39 Belgian horses at this year's provincial show at Birtle. The show was brought to a close with a supper put on by the show committee, and a time of fun and fellowship followed.
